Stormy Day

Took a couple of pictures last night at sunset when Wanda and I took a walk. Very stormy day with rain (lots), hail and wind.

It was beautiful after it passed though. Kinda cool for here and but not cold like the northwest.

Glad We Are Here

Wow. Saw the weather forecast for Spokane for the next week. 11" of snow, below zero temps. Brrr!
It's supposed to get cold here to, like 58". The locals are bundling up. Yesterday we sat at Avila beach in shorts and played scrabble for a couple of hours. Life is tough.
The park is pretty quiet right now and will be until after Christmas.
Anyway, I bet even Portland/Vancouver will cold and may even get snow. Good luck.

Happy Holidays

Had Thanksgiving dinner with other hosts last night, lotsa fun. Wanda's oldest daughter and husband get here today and then Kristi and her family get here Saturday and then, another dinner! It will be fun. Weather is supposed to be in the low 70's. Can't wait.

We have been here 1 month and I finally have a couple of pictures attached. We have beautiful views of Morro Rock from across the road. Our site is at the edge of the park and we have a view of the bay.

We are in 7th heaven. Every Thursday there is a farmers market down the road from us with local grown produce and fruit. Still getting fresh strawberrys.

We will be leaving here early May and will be stopping by Portland/Vancouver to see Michelle and family and Jonathan and family. Can't wait to see Ivy walking!

Getting Settled

Getting settled into our site here at Morro Bay State Park. Warm today. 83 right now and windy. Normal is upper 60's. This is a large park with 137 campsites. Wanda and I are the firewood hosts. We supply 3 campgrounds along this section of coast with firewood to sell to campers.
I go out with Calif. Dept. of Forestry who use prisoners to cut and split the wood. Very interesting guys to say the least. They are all within 3 to 5 years from completing their sentences. On Saturdays, I use people who are completing community service requirements because of DUI's and etc. One guy I had last week still has 180 hours to work off. He must have been really drunk!
I'll get some pictures of the area and post them on our blog.

The Story

The story behind the pictures of the remodel.
The contractors were finally done on Friday, Oct. 17th. We cleaned frantically Sat and Sun and had a party with our closest friends on Monday. Then we frantically packed up our RV and had to leave Sat. the 25th. Wow, we were exhausted by the time we left.
We are getting settled in at Morro Bay State Park on the central California coast and will be "firewood Hosts" until May 1st.

Remodel

Hi kids. Here are some before pictures (actually, during) of part of our remodel. I have some after pictures somewhere in my computer but couldn't find them this morning.
We are in Morro Bay, California right now and will be here until May 1st and then head home.

1973

The year was 1973, August 29th. Jonathan was born in Hermiston, Oregon. He was so cute! Like every other baby of mine, I fell instantly in love.
We had only been in Hermiston for a little over a month. This was the year that I went out and bought a whole bunch of ripe peaches and decided we were going to learn how to can them. It is also when we found out that Nanette was really allergic to peaches! Don't know if you guys remember much about living there because it was only about 8 months before I got transferred again.
Anyway, on another note, a very dear friend of ours passed away and we attended her funeral today. You may remember at my 60th birthday party she was the chinese woman who sang "happy birthday" to me in chinese. She was only 58 years old and was diagnosed with cancer about 10 months ago. She was a close friend of Wanda's.
Gonna end this now.
Love you all, Dad

I Hate Painting

Well, here we are for the 3rd time painting our family room, kitchen and dining room. The contractor has all of the unfinished hardwood flooring down and wants all the walls painted before he sands and finishes the flooring. The worst part is masking everything off. The end result will be great though. It's just agonizing getting it done.
He wants us out of the house for 3 days while he does the finishing so we are going to Las Vegas to meet Wanda's sisters the 24th of August. We both had frequent flier miles, so that part doesn't cost us anything, but we have a pretty strict gambling budget though.
I'll try to post some before and after photos for you all to look at.

Wow!

I can't believe it's been over a month since I posted anything. This home remodel project has become a living, breathing monster threatening to consume us. It seems that once we moved upstairs to just take a wall out, we get additional ideas. So, now we decided to take out all the flooring in the kitchen and family room and install hardwood flooring. When this is done, we will have hardwood in the entryway, dining room, kitchen and family room. We are going to be kicked out of the upstairs for 3 days during the sanding and finishing stages of this. Thank god the basement is done with a bathroom, TV outlets and laundry. Guess who will be firing up the barbeque for those 3 nights.
We are hoping we will have at least a month or more here at home after everything is done. Don't remember if I told all where we will be this winter. Morro Bay State Park on the California coast.
By the way, Michelle and Nanette are probably the only kids that would remember, but it was 37 years ago this month that we moved to Goldendale, Washington from California.
Well, it's time for me to wade through the construction zone to hit the sack. To any of my kids who might read this, I love you all very much.

Been Awhile

It's been awhile since I posted anything. Spent many frustrating minites (seemed like hours) trying to post some music to the site. Gave up, had better things to do.
Steven will appreciate this. I was on my hands and knees for hours putting down hardwood flooring in our basement. Still have one last little section to do. The laundry room is tiled and is basically done, and the bathroom to. Looks real nice.
We are taking a break over the 4th of July and going just across the Idaho border into Montana with friends. We are each pulling our RVs to go to this little mom and pop owned RV park that has been in their family since 1964. Not fancy at all but really cool.
Michelle I will get together with you when we get back and figure out this music thing.

Hot!

Wow! Actually got up to 75 today. That's a heat wave here this year. Played one of my lousiest rounds of golf this year. I only play once a week, so what can I expect.
The contractors at our house worked again in the basement, hung four doors, one of which is totally wrong. I should have hung them myself.
I did get quite a bit of hardwood flooring laid early this morning. Thank god I am doing this myself. Steven said he did some at his place and agreed it can be frustrating. Will do some more in the morning and maybe get some trim up around the 3 doors that seem to be ok. Maybe Wanda can get her laundry room and bathroom back finally.

Fathers Day

It's fathers day. Congradulations to Deryl and Jonathan. It's old hat for Deryl but it's Jonathans first fathers day. He is going to be a great dad!!
I miss the fact that my dad is not alive, and I would give anything to go back and do a better job of keeping in touch with him. The problem is, I have become too much like him and don't do a good job of keeping in touch with my kids. My sincere apologies for this and will try to do a better job.

Remodel

Hello all,

Sunday, it actually got up to 60 degrees today. This is considered really hot this year. It's been pretty miserable, cloudy, rainy and very windy this past week.
Don't know if any of you knew it, but we put our house on the market this past winter while we were gone. Didn't sell, but we kinda priced it high. Soooo, we have had a contractor working and so far the basement is almost finished. About one more week and then they move upstairs and start on the kitchen. Not a huge HGTV type project cuz that would be to expensive, but it will open up the kitchen/family room nicely and update countertops.
We are pretty excited about this. Will post some pictures.

Getting Started

I'm trying to get this blog started and it is not intuitively easy.
Maybe once I get it going, my kids and Wanda's kids will have a better idea of what we are doing now that we are retired.
The last 2 winters we have run away from home to get away from the snow and ice of Spokane. The only way we can afford to be away is to volunteer host and various campgrounds.
We started by spending 3 months in 2007 with the Oregon State Parks system on the Oregon coast. Not snowy but quite rainy at times. This past winter, we did the month of October with the Oregon State Parks and from there, we went to San Luis Obispo County park system in a somewhat remote area halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco about 30 miles inland from the coast. Santa Margarita Lake was beautiful! Spent 5 months there and enjoyed every minute of it. Will post some pictures once I figure out how!
We came home the end of March just in time for an additional heavy dose of snow. We thought we would be able to travel and see more of the kids and grandkids that live in Idaho and Utah, but now the cost of diesel is so high I don't think that is going to happen.
